BZA denies

application

By Jan LaValley

Rappahannock News Staff Writer

The Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals turned down an application by Donald W. McCarty III of Washington, Va. for a setback variance on his property off Route 614. Mr. McCarty had requested the variance for the purpose of constructing a two-car garage near his home.

The board felt, because there is adequate space to locate the garage elsewhere, there was not sufficient reason for a setback variance.

Mr. McCarty told the board that he wanted to build the garage in that area of the property because his plans are for a sort of carriage house, in keeping with the house which was built in 1890. He felt the location was appropriate but it required a variance.

Mr. McCarty provided the board with pictures and diagrams of the property to explain to them the lay of the land and what he proposed to do. The board felt he should relocate the garage and denied the application.

The board approved an application by Linda W. Riley, who is purchasing a home on Crest Hill Road in Flint Hill, for the construction of an addition to the home.

The purpose of the addition is as a separate apartment for her to live. Her daughter and son-in-law, who are buying the home with her, will live in the existing home.
