On July 31, 15-year-old Lucy Burhnam boarded a plane to come spend a year in America. She would be leaving Jier home town of Romsey, Australia, a small farming community with a population of about two thousand, for a strikingly similar place in the states, Rappahannock County.
Lucy has been planning her trip since 1995 but has been interested in the U.S. for even longer.
“I’ve always had an interest in the U.S., since I was about ten,” she said, adding jokingly that it could even be called a slight obsession. That isn’t the only reason she wished to become an exchange student however.
