“One of the things I try to convey to people here is ‘you don’t know how lucky you are to have the kind of government we have’,” said Rappahannock’s County Administrator John McCarthy.
“Decision making here is quick and pretty much straight forward. I’ve served maybe 10 different board of supervisors members since I’ve been here and I can honestly say I’ve never seen any of them make decisions based on their own self-interest. It’s (the county board) a good example of truly representative government,” he said. “ Mr. McCarthy went on to say that the supervisors and others serving on positions on county boards are genuinely representative of their districts.
“You know people here,” he said. “You work with them, or buy from them and it’s very close to the road. I like government at this level much better than say in Fairfax County where supervisors represent huge numbers of people.”
