Mr. McCarthy said he has seen members of the board here say no to an issue even when a majority of people are for it because they think, really believe, it is the right thing to do.
He said now-a-days that’s very rare.
He was hired as the zoning administrator for Rappahannock and as an administrative assistant to the board of supervisors in June 1986. At that time the position of county administrator didn’t exist. On July 1, ‘88 he was officially hired as county administrator.
“In looking back some things we did loom larger than others,” he said.
Completely revising the zoning and subdivision ordinance and twice redoing the county’s comprehensive plan are probably the most important, he said. They will have more long term effect on the county and he thinks in the last decade county government officials and citizens have become ever more serious about planning for the future.
