One eighth of the land that drains into the Rappahannock River is in Rappahannock County. He said he is certain that the run off here doesn’t do a fraction of the damage done by something like a large shopping are or mall in Fredericksburg. Yet agriculture, as a whole, is really taking the brunt of criticism these days for pollution in the river.

It is in Fredericksburg’s best interest, he said, for us not to develop this county. However, land use laws say if you want more tax revenue then you have to develop. That solution would ruin the county, he said.

“I think there is room in Virginia for the Rappahannocks and the Fredericksburgs,” he said.
