Mr. Herd also cautioned that “a survey is limited. It’s basically a one-shot deal, not interactive. Interaction is very healthy. But a survey will touch people who would normally not be involved.”
Mitzi Young, a member of the Town’s Future Committee and the Zoning Board of l Appeals, £aid that the comments collected during the heavily attended July 25 town meeting were very inclusive. The comments were summarized in Mr. Herd’s written report of that meeting and made available to the public.
Mayor Willis, cited by attendees for his extensive experience in government and procurement matters, agreed to act as project officer to handle funds for the project on behalf of the town council.
Other residents were concerned that unless there were sufficient official representatives on the steering committee, it could “end up spinning its wheels.”
Mr. Gooch said that, in addition to the mayor, some other council members would be involved. Ms. Young, Mr. Tompkins, Ed Barton from the Architectural Review Board, John McCarthy, County Zoning Administrator, and Reinhardt Lynch of The Inn are expected to serve. Each contributes a unique expertise to the committee.
The next town council meeting will be Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m in the town hall. Members of the community are encouraged to attend. Copies of the agenda will be available from Kay Kohler prior to the meeting.
