After high school Goodine was in the army from 1963 to 1966. He attended Belnap College for one year and in 1970 he said he bought a raising hammer (a jeweler’s hammer) in Boston beginning his career as a self-taught jeweler.
He is a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen which is the oldest organization of its kind that helps preserve cottage industries. Goodine became a League member and he also sells his jewelry at the League’s stores.
He works from 11 a.m. to^ 11 p.m., although his life is ' leisurely, he says. His shop is open Thursday through Monday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. He closes in August when he travels to his studio in the birch woods in New Hampshire.
