This is now an open ditch next to the building housing the County Building Inspector’s office and several small shops. On one side of the ditch is a stone wall. VDOT proposes to install an underground drainage pipe, widen the hardsurfaced road slightly and add a sidewalk that would intersect the sidewalk on Gay Street. VDOT already has sufficient right-of-way to do the work. No opposition expected. Projected start date July 2001, projected completion, August 2001.
No. 31: Route 633, Battle Run Road bridge. From .02 miles east Route 627 to .07 miles east Route 627 (length .05 miles). Reconstruct approaches to the bridge and reconstruct the bridge itself. Daily traffic count 35. This is a timber deck ' bridge with metal siderails. The bridge has a safety rating of 44.30 out of 100. VDOT engineers anticipate that the bridge will need to be worked on by the end of 2003. Projected completion date July 2004.
No. 32: Route 626, from Route 627 to Route 622 (length 2.4 miles). Reconstruct, widen and pave a gravel road. Daily traffic count 134. This is a picturesque road on Long Mountain. VDOT has this as a low priority and changes will require more citizen input.
