was born into a family of five girls .and one boy in Fauquier County. She attended school in a one room school. At an early age she learned to milk cows, cut corn and plow the fields.
After the death of her husband, she began to help at the Senior Center. She is still serving food there as she has for the past 18 years.
Mrs. Pullen also helps with the Bloodmobile as she has for many years. She makes the chicken salad sandwiches and pound cake served to donors.
She has always helped with the Baccalaureate reception. We all remember her pouring punch at one of the tables after baking dozens of cookies to be served too.
We know Alice as the dahlia lady. She raises beautiful dahlias in her garden. They are arranged in her church many Sundays each year. In the fall when the roots are dug, some of these roots find new homes and the beauty is spread.
At 85 years old, Alice Pullen continues to give. When told the scholarship was being named for her and we would like for her to present the scholarship/in June at graduation, she said, “I’ll do it.”
