Moore said that U.S. 29 and U.S. 17 south to Fredericksburg will receive more VDOT attention. Truck traffic is expected to increase. “Truck traffic was banned on 17, but that only pumps the trucks through the county.” He also projected that U.S. 29 will become six lanes from Warrenton to Gainesville, following the results of VDOTs Interstate 66 Major Investment Study. VDOT already controls the right-of-way necessary for the project.
Anna Wallen of Woodville also had questions regarding U.S. 29. According to Moore, VDOT has an active study to rebuild U.S. 29 south from Warrenton to Charlottesville as a limited access highway. After the study was completed, it was “modified to be less impactive on the land and sent back to the governor’s office” for review. It is being held for the next appointed Commonwealth Transportation Board. Moore suggested that the information could be provided to local county governments to use to help reserve land for the future
