Coming shortly after John Hinkley’s near-disastrous assassination attempt on the President’s life, security measures were extraordinary. The Rappahannock News reported that state police and the county sheriff's department set up roadblocks at Five Forks intersection and Woodville. All the firefighters were completely checked out, too, said Estes. “They knew more about us than we knew ourselves.”
