Funds for these markers come from private organizations, individuals and local jurisdictions. Barbara Williams, of the Sperryville Historical Committee, has been the driving force behind raising funds to pay for the marker. It will cost $1,100 and funds are still needed. People wishing to donate toward the marker may reach Williams at 987-9343. They need the donations in by Jan. 1,1998 if possible.
Originally the goal of the committee was to raise funds to get the marker for the district. They had an initial meeting on Nov. 18 which Williams said was very successful and which brought out other areas of concern about Sperryville’s historic district.
“We’ve realized there are many other interests we need to address,” said Williams. Those include recording an oral history from residents, catalog the history of structures and put all that information into publication. In addition, some attend
