The fire company’s newest truck is a 1986 model purchased last year from the McLean, Va., fire department. “This is the first truck we have had that allows us to sit inside, out of the weather.”
A few weeks ago, Chief Burke mailed out the company’s annual fund drive solicitation to the families in his area. “Many people do not realize that we are a volunteer organization,” he said. “The fire levy only covers our basic administrative costs,” like heat, telephone, and office supplies. “There are over 3,000 residential structures in our first due area. We had only a 20 percent response rate to last year’s fund drive. We need these donations to make the monthly payments on our fire truck.”
Estes and Burke hope that donations will improve this year.
The volunteer system said Estes, is “good neighbors helping each other. It brings out the best in people.”
