century. The Castleton post office was a comparative late•comer, opening under James W. Wright in May 1878. Of the 12 postmasters, six were surnamed Cannon. John W. Cannon replaced Wright in 1884. Family members then managed the post office in an unbroken line from March 1914 to its closure.
