Amissville residents have vowed to continue to fight. Said Smet, “We want the postal service to understand that we want the post office to remain in Amissville. We want the board of supervisors to understand us and support us. We want the village to remain the way it is.”
Added Linda Smet, “The county comprehensive plan is to develop villages. If you take away the post office, what have we got? A vineyard, a fire department and a general store. We already have problems because we are part of three counties.”
Several members of the committee pointed out that moving the post office to Clevenger’s Corner would add almost nine miles to the round trip. The committee is exploring the possibility of organizing the community into a cohesive group that would clearly establish Amissville as a recognizable geographic village.
