Kirk T. Milam recently assumed the position as Cubmaster of Pack 123, based in Washington. He took over the position from Mr. Joe Peregory at the start of this school year.
Mr. Peregory served as Cubmaster for the past seven years. During his tenure, the Pack grew from a handful of boys to as many as 70 active scouts. In addition, Mr. Peregory instigated many of the fun and exciting activities that the Pack now participates in annually and is responsible for making the Pack's fund raising activities lucrative and beneficial to the Pack.
Mr Milam was born in Danville. He attended George Washington High School there and after graduation attended the University of Richmond where he obtained a B.S. in Business Administration from the University's E. Claiborne Robins School of Business. He later attended the University's T.C. Williams School of Law.
In law school Mr. Milam served as Manuscripts Editor of the University of Richmond Law Review, a widely read legal publication, and was a member of the prestigious McNeil Law Society, an honor granted to only those at the top of their law school class. During his second and third years of law school Mr. Milam worked for the Richmond law firm of Cawthome, Picard and Rowe and then as an extern for the Honorable James R. Spencer of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He graduated from law school with a J.D. degree, Cum Laude, in 1997.
After taking the Bar Exam in the summer of 1997, Mr. Milam moved to Rappahannock County with his wife and family. He worked for the Prince William County Circuit Court for two years and later served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Manassas.
Tired of the hour long daily commute, Mr. Milam now works with a solo practitioner in Warrenton., and maintains a "general practice," working in the areas of general civil litigation, business and commercial law, real estate, wills and trusts, domestic law and criminal and traffic defense.
Mr. Milam is married to the former Sheila Peterson of Danville. They have two sons, Dustin, age eight and a Bear Cub Scout and Kirk Jr. age seven and a Tiger Cub Scout.
Besides serving as Cubmaster for Pack 123, Mr. Milam is an active member of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club and works as a Trail Overseer, maintaining a section of the Appalachian Trail near the Conservation Research Center in Warren County.
Mr. Milam has stated that he feels the success of the Cub Scout program in the county is due to the hard work and enthusiasm that Mr. Peregory brought to the position of Cubmaster for the past seven years.
