Sometimes the research can be painfully slow. Wayne spent six full days at the library copying names, dates, etc. from the 1870 census data. ,r
Efforts to track down his fourth greatgrandfather, for whom he had a name only, : took over ten years. In recent years, Wayne - / has added the internet to his research tools, ,, but he warns that internet data can be unre- ;; liable.
Wayne has written one book, "Grandpa's Time and Before," and has contributed arti- . cles to the Rappahannock News since 1974. „ In 1983, he collected oral histories that ; become part of Voices of Rappahannock, an ; original drama produced by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC).
This past summer, Wayne took his first ;; trip out of the United States to attend a Dwyer family gathering in Ireland, which - brought together folks from all over the world. They have been able to trace Dwyer * family roots in this country back nine gener- J ations, which means that the family came * here long before the potato famine. The trip -- to Ireland provided an opportunity to look back at family history from the period before .« their migration to America. £
