By Diana Bird , Rappahannock News Writer , A Middle Street Gallery r*1®rn^)er of long-standing, Christopher Stephens has mounted a show for November, "Along the River”, celebrating one of our colorful local landscapes. Seventeen works of oil and pastel document the seasonal and diurnal changes of the valley, fields and mountains through which the Shenandoah River runs south of Front Royal.
Only a farm road and cleared fields indicate inhabitants; otherwise, all we see are aspects of nature, including some affecting evening skies. Mr. Stephens is a skillful colorist who blends his highkeyed yet delicate tones with assurance. I felt that he had educated my eye when I left the show and looked again at the still vivid colors of our mountainsides and pastures as I drove home.
