The Ladies Auxiliary of the Sperryville Fire Department Company #2 and Rescue Squad held their first banquet Saturday night, March 31 to give awards to the many active members who have served the community through out the years. They hope to continue this each year.

Mr. Charles Estes opened the meeting with the history of the fire department which was organized in 1947.

The first fire chief was G.M. Black who came here from North Carolina to manage the Miller Farm.

The first secretary was James Atkins, and Robert Estes was the first treasurer. The Board of Directors included G.M. Black, James Atkins, C.E. Johnson, Hugh Atkins and Charles H. Estes.

The land where the fire station is today was purchased on Dec. 21, 1960 from Mr. James W. Coates.

As the years have passed, the fire company is in better condition than it was then. This is due to the dedicated
