Mr. Luke also expressed his belief that new Federal regulations will soon be forthcoming, and that these will result in changes to state sludge-related laws and regulations.
The Board unanimously approved the resolution forwarding the draft ordinance to the Planning Commission for public hearing to be held on June 20.
Other activities
• The Board unanimously approved a resolution that declares Rappahannock County “The Volunteer Capitol of Virginia” and that forwards a copy to the General Assembly for their recognition.
• A budget work session was scheduled for May 22 at 7 p.m. and Mr. McCarthy will advertise a draft budget that requires a three cent real estate tax increase.
• The Board agreed to take steps to establish a committee to study alternate sources of revenue for school funding. The committee will be staffed by two residents of each district, and an advertisement will be placed in the Rappahannock News to solicit committee members.
• The Board struck consideration of a resolution calling for continued operation of the Smithsonian’s Conservation Research Center because the Smithsonian reversed its decision to close the facility.
• The Board reached con* sensus on a proposal by Animal Control Officer James Leake to change the dog licensing fee structure from a flat rate of $5 to a differential fee of $10 for a male or female dog and $5 for a spayed or neutered dog. Mr. McCarthy will prepare a draft ordinance in time for enactment before next year’s licenses are required.
• The Board approved a request by the Rappahannock Historical Society to use a facsimile of the County seal on golf shirts to be sold as a fund raiser.
