On Thursday, April 27, 1961, Judi North represented Rappahannock County High School in the Apple Pie Baking Contest held in Winchester in connection with the Apple Blossom Festival. Judi had previously won the local contest. She was accompanied to Winchester by Mrs. Glenna Bennett, Rappahannock’s FHA advisor and home economics teacher. Judi placed fourth in the bake-off in which nine other schools were represented.
At the Sperryville Elementary School May Day Celebration, Carolyn Johnston was crowed Queen. Other court attendants were Diane Nethers, Helen Fincham, Cary Carr, Frank Coffey, Rhona Brown, Alice Pullen, Juanita Atkins, Ann Deal and Linda Jenkins. Rebecca Rector was Maid of Honor. Bill Mundy was King and Tommy Sisk was Prince.
At an announced meeting of the Board of Supervisors held Wednesday at the courthouse in Washington, the proposed budget was approved with a 25 cent tax levy increase. Only a few Rappahannock residents were present for the meeting, those being mostly interested in school funds.
