Benefit garage sale set
The Faith Mountaineers, a Relay for Life team, is holding a fund raising garage sale on Saturday, May 12 from 10 a m. to 2 p.m. at 27 Main Street in Sperryville. The Relay for Life is the annual fund raising event of the Rappahannock County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life is a community event in which teams of 8-15 people raise funds and take turns in the Relay. The Relay will be held May 18-19 at the Rappahannock County Elementary School.
Voter registration deadline
Monday, May 14 is the last day to register to vote in the Democratic Primary to be held on June 12. Anyone who is a resident of Rappahannock, who is at least 18 years old and who would like to participate in the decision-making process in our state is encouraged to register to vote. Cleanup Day set
The Sperryville Cemetery Ad Hoc Maintenance Committee is seeking volunteers! In recent years the Sperryville Cemetery has suffered from a lack of maintenance and attention. It needs to be restored to a condition that would honor our loved ones who have been placed there. Please join the group on Saturday, June 2 beginning at 8 a m. and lend your support in this endeavor.
Bring whatever tools you have that may be of use in general cleanup and trash removal, trimming grass around headstones and markers, pruning shrubs and trees, etc. Cold drinks and snacks will be provided. The gates to the cemetery steps were removed approximately six months ago, anyone with information is encouraged to call Carson Johnson at 987-8720.
Results of Curriculum Study
The community is invited to attend a meeting at RCHS on Tuesday, May 15 to hear the results of the recent Rappahannock County Public Schools Curriculum Study. The study was privately funded by the Greve School Council to help the school system assess its needs in the area of curriculum alignment. The meeting will be held immediately after school at 3:45 p.m. in the RCHS Auditorium. Please come and listen to this informative report.
Pre-school opportunity
If you have children aged 0-5, please plan to visit the “Central Courtyard and Butterfly Garden" at RCES on DARE/Field Day, Friday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be many agencies and teachers on hand to answer questions that you may have about your pre-school aged child. There are many services available to pre-schoolers and their parents that often seem to be “well-kept secrets". Many thanks to volunteer Mrs. Barbara Adolfi who is helping to plan this event. DMV Mobile Center coming
The Department of Motor Vehicles’ Motor Customer Service Center will visit the Town of Washington on Monday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center will be located on the Washington Fire Department grounds. The DMV on wheels offers most services that you'll find in office locations.
Mobile services include driver’s license exams and road tests, vehicle registration and titling, driving records and photo identification cards. If your driver’s license expires within the next two years, you can renew ahead of time at the mobile unit.
