In special recognition of her work in cancer education with Rappahannock, Darlene Jett Green was honored at a surprise ceremony held last Friday at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Hill. Presentation of a plaque by Warren Goode of New Market shared the spotlight, however, an unrehearsed skit put on by Mrs. Carrie Price and other members of Macedonia’s Voices of Inspiration was enjoyed by all.
Representatives from Extension Homemakers Clubs of Amissville, Woodville and Flint Hill planted three pin oak trees at the Rappahannock Recreation Association’s community center just outside of Washington. The tree planting coincides with National Extension Homemakers Week, May 3-9. Diane Bruce accepted the contribution on behalf of the RRA at ceremonies on Tuesday.
The Washington Fire Company siren has been moved from the former firehouse to the newly acquired town hall. The combined efforts of Mayor Newbill Miller, Potomac Edison servicemen, electrician Thurmon Whorton, fire personnel Steve Critzer and others were responsible for the move.

The Board of Supervisors approved the school budget as presented and decided to advertise the county budget at the current real estate tax rate of 77 cents per hundred.
David R. Batchelder has joined his father, Roger Batchelder, in the real estate business. David, a builder for 10 years, successfully completed a 60-hour real estate course at Lord Fairfax-Germanna College in Warrenton.
