The sea life pictured here prompted me to look into my book on seashells, likewise, the fungi of • “Mademoiselle Chanterelle” took me to “The Field Guide to North American Mushrooms”.
Kenny’s accuracy in portraying nature is that of a naturalistic illustrator, only more beautiful.
The approach Kenny takes to his work is both witty and solemn. He likes to show wild life relating to one another in unlikely equations. Perhaps he is asking us to acknowledge that there are precarious balances in the environment that we are reluctant to acknowledge. Certainly, in his acute and insistent looking at nature and in replications of it, ho tells us to watch out, to really see what is before us and to contemplate oar possible relationships to life’s wonders.
That idea is especially suggested in his picture “Reliquary” where we see a small bird in a wholly floral, if moribund, situations, a darkly peering-out Dodo.
