Though there is no way to miss the deadline for this year’s Rappahannock County Fourth of July celebration in Washington, the event organizer, The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC), is again on target with a fete that will be Rappahannock, Rappahannock and more Rappahannock.
Building on the momentum from last year’s Rappahannock-oriented “Festival 2000”, the 2001 version, named the “William M. Carrigan Independence Day Celebration” in honor of the event’s past benefactor, will be even more of a Rappahannock County street party.
Food will fall like manna from the largely Rappahannock-based corps of vendors. Salad and sandwiches again from Rae’s Deli, chicken and more from the Washington Baptist Church, lamb plus other goodies from the 4-H Club, burgers and other comestibles from the Sperryville Rescue Squad, steak and cheese from the Amissville Area Community Association, and gourmet goodies from the Sunnyside Farms Store which will celebrate its first anniversary on the Fourth of July.
There will also be a wine tent this year for the first time (in the Sunnyside Farms Store parking lot) featuring wine tastings and complementary snacks from six of our Rappahannock wineries.
