Lady Panther kudos
School Board Chair Wesley Mills dedicated his report to effusive praise for the State Softball Champions and for the coaching and efforts that made their win possible. The championship game win was an “unbelievable moment,” he said, and he asked that when you see one of the team members, call them that - a State champion. Mr. Mills also reported that college recruiters in the stands were impressed too - he heard them ask, Where is Rappahannock County?”

Specialist
RCES Principal Raye Tupper and Building Team Leadership (BLT) member Deborah Flinchum presented the Board with their proposal for developing a reading specialist position at the elementary school. In the absence of funding for a reading specialist, the BLT and primary staff reached consensus «on a plan to create a slot for a reading specialist by combining this year’s four kindergarten classes into three first grade classes in the next school year. This can be done without creating overly large classes (each first grade class will have 18 students) because of enrollment declines. The reading specialist will be drawn from existing staff and will: teach struggling K-3 students; serve as a resource to K-12 teachers, and provide staff development in reading to teachers in K-12. The Board unanimously approved the proposal.
