Yes, the bald eagle is an opportunist and seems to appreciate that discretion is the better part of yalor. However, it’s just doing what all species do — trying to survive. It’s our fault, not the bald eagle’s, if we endow it with more character than other birds strictly on the basis of its looks. In romanticizing or denigrating a species, we are demonstrating our own ignorance of the complexity of nature. I have enough trouble figuring out what humans are all about and where we fit in. I’m content just to watch any species in hopes of adding a few more pieces to the puzzle.
