Twenty years ago, after the blizzard of 1983, Casanova Hunt Point-To-Point still had its race meet.
About 7,000 spectators attended, and horses and humans came out of the adventure unscathed.
Considered one of the toughest of race meets, this year Casanova officials surprised their die-hard fans by pushing the race day back.
But it isn’t the snow that has the officials worried, it’s the predicted massive melting.
“Even if we were not getting all the rain they were predicting this weekend," race cochairman Will O’Keefe said, “the ground would be so saturated that it (racing and incoming spectator vehicles) would tear up the property. Bight now, we’re even worried about Rappahannock’s meet” currently slated for March 1.
Casanova Master of Foxhounds Joyce Fendley is just as shell-shocked.
