The Virginia steeplechasing is not the only circuit that runs in the spring. Maryland and the Delaware Valley each have a competitive series.
“Oh, we are going to have this meet,” O’Keefe said. “It might have to be in the fall, but it will run.”
New course
Especially unfortunate about the changes is cancellation of the inaugural running on a brand-new course.
David Blake of Buckland Farm designed the course in the shape of a bowl, giving spectators more of a view than the old meet at Mt. Sterling Farm.
“This is an ideal course for spectators,” Fendley said. “They* really can see almost thp entire course. The turf is very old and quite dense.
“It’s wonderful footing — well, when it isn’t covered in snow.”
