and we have had record sales. At Casanova we are used to dealing with snow and we were prepared to move ‘a little’ snow, but this was too much. We are all going to be swamped when the temperatures start to rise and the rains come.”
Historic runnings
This is not the first time the 46-year-old meet has had to bow to Mother Nature.
“I can remember in the 1970s, I took entries for Casanova three weeks in a row,” O’Keefe said. “We finally ran it on the Sunday after Blue Ridge Hunt races. That is what we are going to shoot for this time.”
O'Keefe is worried that if the weather does not cooperate on the rescheduled March 9 date, they may be in real trouble.
“Back 20 or 30 years ago we only had a handful of meets in the spring” total, O’Keefe said. “Now we have two and three meets per weekend. Moving a meet like Casanova to another day may not be possible.”
