Rappahannock resident Amos Blanton will give a presentation on “Using Straight Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel” at the Rappahannock County Public Library on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
Blanton has converted his VW Jetta Diesel-engine car to run on filtered, used vegetable oil recycled from Ben Venue’s Ecow restaurant.
In his presentation, Blanton will discuss converting diesel-engine vehicles to run on straight vegetable oil <SVO); how this differs from biodiesel (another alternative, renewable fuel); and the environmental and economic benefits of both.
On Oct. 20-23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each evening, Blanton will conduct a hands-on diesel conversion workshop at Hearthstone School, in which participants will help to install an alternate fuel tank and switch to convert a vehicle to run on SVO
Sponsored by Hearthstone School and the Captain Planet Foundation, the workshop, which is free of charge, will also include an environmental cost-benefit analysis comparing the impact of renewable fuels with that of fossil fuels. ...
