In its season opener, the Rappahannock County JV football team defeated the Strasburg Rams 34-6.

The Panthers opened the game with an 82-yard kickoff return by Eric Phillips for the first score. Paige Payne converted on the kick after to make the score 7-0.

Strasburg. had to punt on its opening drive. After a 34yard punt return by Dylan Corbin, the Panthers took over at the Rams 24 and capped off the drive with a three-yard touchdown run by Nick Compton. Once again Payne converted the extra point to take a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Strasburg lost a fumble on its own seven-yard line. Compton finished that drive with a one yard run for the touchdown. The extra point failed which gave the Panthers a 20-0 lead.

The Rams had to punt on their next possession. The Panthers took over at the Rams’ 45-yard line. On the next to last play of the half, Payne hit Anthony Clindense on a screen pass for a 35-yard touchdown, Payne made the extra point to give the Panthers a 27-0 halftime lead.

There was no scoring in the third quarter by either team.
