He said his games experience helps there, with the closecontact mounted games giving him the confidence in close quarters required to teach young horses about jumping in a group situation.
“That is one of my favorite things, schooling young horses,” Read said. “Not all the riders (at Kinross) like to do that, get in close and knock stirrups. But you’ve got to teach them, ‘cause this is what’s going to happen on the racecourse. They’ve got to learn to react, fast.”
