They had no idea what they’d begun. When Christopher Read’s parents first perched their toddler son aboard his sister’s most trustworthy pony, they didn’t know the monster they’d created.
Almost immediately, Read said, he seemed to know how to hold the reins, and, perhaps more pertinent, how to get the pony to go. Fast.
“And faster,” he added with a laugh.
Twenty-five years later, Read is still on that roll, and continuing his meteoric rise to the top of Virginia’s steeplechase game.
