‘We haven’t given up yet’
I was amazed that the Rappahannock
County Board of Supervisors turned its back on the Rappahannock Express bus after having approved the money in its budget this year.
On sound advice from other transit managers in four other counties, w’e made it very clear previously that it would take a good year to see what the bus could really do. The supervisors did not give it the chance it deserved. They gave it five months.
I still get calls from people saying, “I heard there is a bus I might be able to use. Can you tell me about it?” If you live in the county and you don’t read the Rappahannock News or rapplinks.com, you probably haven’t heard about the bus. Our committee worked hard to reach those individuals. But this takes time. Every transit manager has told us that we need at least a year.
That’s where you come in. We are reaching out to the people of Rappahannock County who agree that the bus is a good idea. Our committee has formed a group called the Friends of the Rappahannock Express. We have met with the Operations Manager of the Virginia Regional Transit Authority, who now operates the bus, to consider our options.
