911 outage still a mystery By Nicholas M. Horrock Rappahannock News Staff Writer Rappahannock County Administrator John McCarthy told the Board of Supervisors Monday that neither Verizon nor Sprint knew which company had caused an outage of the 911 system which occurred over a week before and he could not guarantee the supervisors that there would not be a reoccurrence. The 911 system for two telephone exchanges was not operating properly from midday that Sunday, Feb. 22 until 11:15 a.m. the following Tuesday, according to 911 Coordinator Richie Burke. “It was not our finest hour,” McCarthy said, but he assured the supervisors that it was not a problem with the county equipment, but within the two telephone companies that serve Rappahannock.
