Certainly they will make mistakes, just as we did when we were their age. They also will experiment with alcohol, just as we did when we were their age. Placing the tragic blame on the shoulders of these young people is morally wrong.
Are we pursuing this just so we. as parents, can have our deepest fears suspended, namely that it could have been our kid there at the wrong place and time? Do we really want to add insult to injury just to make ourselves feel better? Isn't one tragedy enough?
