Rappahannock County has been criticized for not having sufficient housing for middle and low income families and the elderly.

The supervisors discussed the matter in closed session Monday evening and McCarthy was authorized to issue a statement I uesday.

Around that time, the well at the Aileen plant was found to he contaminated from the apparent dumping of dry cleaning solvents into the ground. It wasn't bad enough for the state or ERA to step in. McCarthy said, but the county ended up monitoring the well for the last five years as well as the one at the neighboring blur Hill Pentecostal Church.

No clean up was recommended by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality which in 1994 assessed the pollution risks. It said the concentration of the toxic chemicals diminish wuth time. The state recommended periodic monitoring of the wells of the plant and
