to get rescue and fire services on 911 from two exchanges, 547 and 937 encountered endless busy signals. Burke said the switching problem affected telephones from Amissville to Ben Venue and south to Viewtown and all of Castleton.
McCarthy said that normally if the lines were busy, the telephone company equipment would patch them into a nearby county and then the call would come back to the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office.
