Polly Scoville, near Flint Hill reported a tragedy in the bird world She found a dead hawk outside hei house, and in checking her bird book identified it as a female SharpShinned Hawk.
And finally, a great contribution from Sara Lowry who lives neai Long Mountain Road—she and hei son regularly “bird” along WTalnut Grove Lane and then report theii findings to the folks at the Great Backyard Bird Count at Cornell University. I believe most of you would find their web site most educational and informative. Click on www.birds.cornell.edu; then click on Backyard Birds. Check out the state of Virginia and the number of species seen.
Our list grows. Four bird names were left off January's list of 2S species, and with this month's addons, we're up to 39. They are: Song Sparrow; WTiite Crowned Sparrow Yellow Rumped WTarbler; Hermit Thrush; Brown Creeper; SharpShinned Hawk; Turkey Vulture American Black Duck; Northern Harrier; Wild Turkey.
