Free eye, hearing tests
The Rappahannock Lions Club invites county citizens to have their eyes checked free (including Glaucoma testing) along with free hearing tests on Friday. June 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. The club also is collecting used eye glasses which can be used for recycling. They can be in any shape as parts of the glasses can be used for a re-conditioned set for those in need.
Plant sale for Dodson child
There will be a plant sale at Settles Garage and Grocery on June 12 at 9 a.m. to benefit the Sidney Dodson Cerebral Palsy Fund. A donation of Dwarf Cannas will be sold by volunteers to raise money for the Euromed/ Poland effort.
Song and sushi
Ki Theatre will host a gala benefit dinner and concert with legendary folksinger Tom Paxton on Saturday. June 12. It is hosted by Fran Moore Krebser at her home. "Patna." near Flint Hill and features Japanese Sushi (or grilled tuna). Dinner and concert are $500 per person; seats for dessert and concert are $150 per person. Family reunion
Friends and family of the late Amon, Sam, Ash, Howard, Robert, Oscar. Walter and Helen Wharton will meet June 13 at the Castleton Fire Hall. Please bring a covered dish and drink to share. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
Headwaters' meeting
The June board of directors meeting for Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, will take place Monday, June 14. at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock County extension office. The meeting is open to the public.
Civil War concert
Attendees to the June 15 meeting of the Blue Ridge Civil War Roundtable will be in for a musical treat listening to music of the Civil War. Performed by Evergreen Shade (John Tole and Anne Howard), the concert will be at Evergreen, the home of John and Judy Tole on Rock Mills Road near Route 211. Included in the program will be historical commentary by John Tole on the background of the songs. Guests will assemble there at 7 p.m.; concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.
