Herbert V. Smith

Amissville resident

Herbert Vernon Smith, 78, of Amissville, formerly of Orange, died June 6 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born Sbpt. 3. 1925 in Orange to the late Noah Webster Smith and the late Sadie Ella Lolir Smith.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a dry wall contractor.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Vernon Gayle Smith, two sisters, Anna McGuire Smith Magrogan and Irby Cornelia Smith Burbage, five brothers, Armond Webster Smith, Carroll Tbliferro Smith, William James Smith, Maxie Byrd Smith, Robbie Weldon Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Jolliffe Smith of Amissville, a daughter, Phyllis Anne Smith of Amissville and two grandchildren.

Additional survivors include three sisters. Hazel Marguerite Smith Birdsong of Vienna, Va., Ellamae Smith Showalter of LaPlata, Md., Marion Lynette Smith Preddv of Charlottesville, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family Ben, Martha and Blazer Smith of Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7t9 p.m. on June 12 at the Preddy Funeral
