Photo courtesy/Kerrie Mullany FOR IRAQI CHILDREN: Wakefield Country Day School students have organized a drive to provide school kits for children in Iraq undet a national program called Operation Iraqi Children that was started by actor Gary Sinise and the author of “Seabiscuit,” Laura Hillenbrand. According to Kerrie Mullany who organized the drive, the program sends school notebooks, small toys, pencil sharpeners, and colored pencils to American soldiers serving in Iraq who in turn hand out the supplies to Iraqi school children in their areas of operation. At Wakefield, students from pre-school to seventh grade have collected money and materials for 12 school kits. The private school in Flint Hill has chosen to dedicate its donations to its 1999 alumnus, U. S. Army 2nd Lt. Leonard Cowherd, 23, who was killed in Iraq May 16.
