I?d like to add a few
thoughts to those of Bruce Jones (June 3 issue of Rappahannock News) as to why the quail are disappearing/have disappeared. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries blames this on a combination of habitat shift, chemical use, and weather change. I dispute all those reasons.
I grew up an avid Rappahannock County bird hunter, and kept German Shorthair pointers into the 1980s, but backed off when there were no more birds. I have kept annual records of. wildlife “harvest” on about 1,000 acres of my part of Rappahannock since around 1970. These 1,000 acres have never been in row crops. In my
