“Lime” is limestone, which is nothing more than rock. On other farms in the area the Cooperative spreads the herbicide Roundup (glysophate), a chemical that is so benign that you can sow seeds directly into the soil after application.
Farmers, and Virginia vineyards in particular, recognize the need for sustainable agriculture and integrated pest management (EPM) programs that reduce agriculture runoff of nitrogen and phosphorous and reduce pesticide use.
