The local chapter also responds to single and multifamily disasters in the area. Single family disasters can be things like house fires, where families are completely burned out of their home and lose all of their possessions.
In this event, 911 dispatchers can call on us 24 hours a day.
Single family disasters can also include tornado, storm, or flood damage to a house. There are currently only two volunteers who provide this around the clock response.
Usually, volunteers go to the site of the emergency, talk with the family about their immediate needs, and if necessary, arrange for motel accommodations.
The next day, volunteers meet again with the family to do the necessary paperwork and begin referral to other agencies.
