The quirkily named “Anything Butt” is actually marinated filet mignon with beamaise butter, spinach Rockefeller with shrimp topped with fresh Maryland blue crab pearl, grilled com with garlic lime butter and Asiago cheese. Mouth watering yet?
The awards kept coming in during the summer. At the Shenandoah Valley BBQ Cook Off in Harrisonburg, Va., the Russells took first place for both their chicken and ribs.
“Our mission is to bring you the finest authentic barbecue food made from high quality meats and spices,” noted Kathy.
The Russells serve their barbecue on Route 211 in Sperryville on an empty lot across from the glass factory. The lot is owned by Bill’s parents, and the duo drives every week from Vienna, Va., to serve their food. The site is open Sundays during the spring, summer and fall, weather permitting, from 11 a.m. until the food is gone. -
“We wish we could be open more often,” said Kathy, “but the time required to slow cook our food and the needs of our three young children make that impossible at this time.”
During their first two weekends* in business, the Russells have sold out both days.
“We really enjoy coming to Rappahannock,” said Bill. “Everyone has been so complimentary and easygoing, that it’s hard to actually call it work.”
