I felt it was necessary to remove these individuals for the safety of the deputies at the jail,” said Sherertz.
Deputies from Warren County and a facility in Northern Virginia, which Sherertz would not disclose, came to get the seven men. Five went to the Warren County Adult Detention Center, and two went to the Northern Virginia facility.
I have to make periodic assessments on how secure the facility is, and it was time to address some issues there,” Sherertz said in an interview Friday.
Sherertz said there was suspicion that contrabanditems prohibited inside, and sometimes even outside, the facility—had made its way into the jail. The Rappahannock News had received information that the contraband was drugs, but Sherertz declined to comment.
“The contraband is evidence and I can’t comment on evidence,” said Sherertz.
