Virginia game Warden Matt Miller’s easy-going smile vanished from his face as he addressed students in a hunter education program on Saturday.
“The press loves to use this phrase — but there is no such thing as a hunting accident,” he told his audience. “If one hunter shoots and kills another hunter, it is a homicide. If you (are hunting) in this county and you shoot and kill someone else, I will charge you with murder.”
The game warden was just as adamant about another topic: Hunting and drinking don’t mix, he said. There is zero tolerance for it.1
“Go out and (have a good time) hunting and then go home and have a couple of drinks (with your buddies),” he advised. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with swapping exaggerated stories about the day’s activities, he said.
