Security upgrades
Based upon the recommendations of Maj. Chris Williams, Sherertz has several upgrades he plans to have in place before re-opening cellblock B. They include securing the duct work within the facility, making sure the electrical housing cannot be removed, ensuring the locks are in good repair and are tamper-proof, and making sure the access points from the corrections side of the building to the adminis-. trative offices are also tamper-proof. Sherertz said a new coat of paint and repairs to the bunks in the cells are also on the list.
County Administrator John McCarthy said that he would support the sheriff’s future requests for funding to renovate the jail.
“We have to work through the state Department of Corrections as well,” said McCarthy, “but I will support the sheriff’s ideas.”
